Eligibility
To qualify for a rebate on a natural gas water heater, you must:
§ Be a residential natural gas customer of Xcel Energy in Minnesota
§ Combination boiler/water heaters qualify only for the boiler rebate. They are not eligible for the water heater rebate in addition to the boiler rebate
Qualifying Equipment & Installation
Residential equipment listed on the Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) or ENERGY STAR that meet minimum Uniform Energy Factor rating:
§ Medium Draw Standard Tank Water Heater (0.64 UEF): $75 rebate
§ High Draw Standard Tank Water Heater (0.68 UEF): $75 rebate
§ Tankless Water Heater (0.87 UEF): $250 rebate
Water heater may be installed in a new or existing home.
**Indirect units and commercial water heaters are not eligible. Natural gas water heaters with a rated storage volume of 55 gallons or more are not eligible.

To qualify for a rebate on an electric heat pump water heater, you must:
§ Be a residential electric, gas or combo customer of Xcel Energy in Minnesota
§ Projects invoiced in 2024 where the customer is replacing a natural gas furnace can qualify
§ Projects invoiced in 2023 where the customer is replacing a natural gas furnace do NOT qualify
§ Find qualifying equipment at AHRI
§ Your heat pump water heater must be installed by a registered contractor. Visit Xcel Energy's customer-facing to find contractors who have submitted these rebates in the past.
§ Indirect units, commercial water heaters and rated heat pump water heaters with storage volume greater than 80 gallons are not eligible.
How to get Rebates
§ Contractor must submit rebate.
§ Complete one rebate application per unit of qualifying equipment.
§ Submit rebate application to us by the deadline - September 30 of the year after the qualifying equipment was installed.
§ Expect your rebate in eight weeks or less
