Heating Equipment Rebates

Heating Equipment Rebates

You can save energy and money with a new heating system, as heating and cooling your home typically accounts for 50% of your energy bill. By upgrading to a new high-efficiency furnace, you can bring down the cost of your heating bill by reducing energy use and get cash back with a rebate.

Benefits

  • Cash back rebates help with the initial cost of new equipment
  • Buying a 95% efficient furnace with EC Motor or 95% efficient boiler helps protect you from the potential of future rising energy costs

Average Savings With New Equipment

By installing new high-efficiency equipment, you are expected to save energy and money every year for about 18 years - the average life of a furnace.

Average-sized 95% efficient furnace savings are detailed below, compared to the baseline 80% efficient new furnaces.

  • Average annual usage: 19.73 dekatherms (unit measure for natural gas) per year
  • Average annual savings: $6.09 per dekatherms x 19.73 dekatherms = $120.16 per year
  • Savings over average furnace lifetime: $120.16 per year x 18 years = $2,163 in savings if energy prices remain the same

In addition, EC fan Motors (ECM's) are now standard in all new furnaces, and they are much more efficient than the fan motors that were in older furnaces. You can expect to save about $83 per year on your electric service bill. That's a lifetime savings of about $1,500.

To qualify, you must:

  • Be a participating Xcel Energy residential natural gas customer with an active billing account
  • Have qualifying, 95% efficiency furnace or boiler equipment installed by a contractor

  • If you have multiple furnaces installed, you may receive rebates for each. One application form is needed for each furnace
  • A furnace or boiler must be replacing non-condensing equipment to be eligible for a rebate

AFUE Guidelines for OLD equipment:

  • 87% AFUE and above = condensing
  • 86% AFUE and below = non-condensing
